VALPOI: Taking serious note of accidents caused due to stray cattle menace on roads, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday warned that the government will not only seize cattle but also stop benefits of the Kamdhenu Scheme if animals procured under the scheme are found straying on the roads.
Sawant stated this during his courtesy visit to goushala run by the Jai Shri Ram Gosanvardhan Kendra at Valpoi. Former Deputy Speaker Narhari Haldankar was also present.
The Kamdhenu Scheme was modified last year but the Chief Minister warned that the benefits of the beneficiaries will be stopped if animals procured by them under the scheme are found straying on the streets. The cattle will be impounded by the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, he asserted.
During his visit, the Chief Minister went around the goushals which has 460 animals mostly stray cattle and few injured in accidents and rescued from slaughter houses. He later performed goupooja.
Jai Shri Ram Gosanvardhan Kendra president Hanumant Parab said that the government is providing feeding cost of Rs 150 per animal per day as per the Goa Stray Cattle Management Scheme. Though notified in 2013, the scheme was implemented from 2018.
Parab said that many a times owners abandon their animals after they stop giving milk. But these animals were posing risk to motorists and causing accidents.
