PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday welcomed the passage of Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and said the passing of bill will facilitate reservation of 13 seats in the 40-Member Goa Assembly.

“I welcome passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. For the first time Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid respect to women. I thank Prime Minister because of this bill, 13 seats in Goa will also be reserved for women. It’s a big thing for women. Because of the bill now women representatives will be able to enter Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies,” the CM said in a video message.

Twenty seven years after the bill was first introduced in the Parliament, the Lok Sabha passed the bill with unanimity on September 20. The bill seeks to provide one-third reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies. The bill was subsequently passed by the Rajya Sabha as well with a unanimous vote.
