CMC asked not to rush with declaring Cuncolim ODF

MARGAO: The Cuncolim Civic & Consumer Forum (CCCF) responding to Cuncolim Municipal Council’s advertisement seeking feedback or objections to declaring wards Panzorconi, Talvorda, Comba-Parricotto, Sanvorcotto, Murida and Marddicotto open defecation free (ODF) has given its suggestions.
CCCF has suggested that toilets be provided within the jurisdiction of the Cuncolim Municipal Councils, especially in places that are visited by tourists. Besides it has also suggested that toilets to be installed in the industrial estate where large number of people are working but have no toilet facilities.
CCCF has also pointed out that the toilets provided in the KTCL bus stand at Cuncolim are inadequate and hence asked for more toilets to be provided there besides also ensuring that the toilets are maintained properly.
Similarly, it has pointed out that the toilets provided at the market are not sufficient for the large number of people who visit it especially on Sunday which is the market day for the populace and also asked that they be maintained as per the standards prescribed by the Directorate of Health Services.
Pointing out that many trucks are parked near the petrol pump at Panzorconi either by the roadside or in the open space, the CCCF said that the drivers of these trucks who camp overnight also need toilet facilities.
CCCF has also asked for toilet facilities to be provided near the fields that are cultivated in Cuncolim as people working in these fields are migrants who do not have any toilet facility available for them while at work.
CCCF also pointed out that all the migrant workers in Cuncolim should have a health card issued by the Directorate of Health Services besides asking the council to inform all agencies about what needs to be done by them as regards the various laws in force in the state.
Hence the Cuncolim Municipal Council has been asked to also carry out a campaign creating an awareness of its plan to declare the council open defecation free.
