CUNCOLIM: The post of Chairperson in the Cuncolim Municipal Council has become musical chair, as for the fourth time a no-trust motion has been moved against the chairperson, since the election to the council.
Five women councillors took the lead to remove chairwoman Lavita Mascarenhas from the chair. Eight Councillors have signed the no-trust motion submitted to DMA. The signatories are Angela Luis Paiginkar, former chairwoman Polita Carnero, Kiran Naik, Penzy Coutinho, Sucorina Coutinho, Videsh Dessai, Mario Morais and Ashok Fadte. The strength of the council is twelve members.
The eight members are supported by Joaquim Alemao and remaining ones are supported by the BJP.
After the defeat of Joaquim Alemao at the Assembly election, all the councillors supported by Joaquim shifted their loyalty and got Polita Carnero elected as chairwoman.
But within five months, Lavita Mascarenhas and group toppled Polita. And now Lavita is facing the same fate. According to the councillors, either Kiran Naik or Angela Paiginkar would be the choice for the next chairwoman.
