MARGAO: Hazard a guess why residents of Cuncolim are forced to either approach the Margao Municipal Council or private agencies for a night soil tanker?
Blame it on lethargy or simply indifference, Cuncolim Municipal night soil tanker is still awaiting repairs since the last six months. After virtually lying abandoned and unattended at Mapusa for months now, the night soil tanker has been finally brought back to the Municipal building, but without repairs.
And the civic body has now turned to a Vasco dealer to take up repairs of the night soil tanker, in the bargain losing precious revenue.
Cuncolim Municipal Chairperson Devendra Desai said the civic body has issued a cheque amounting to Rs 19,000 for repair of the tanker motor. “We hope that the repair work will be carried out at the earliest and the tanker is made available for use once again for citizens,” he added.
Replying to a question, Desai virtually blamed the civic staff for their callousness and indifference in getting the tanker repaired on a priority basis.
“Six months delay in repairing the tanker is unacceptable. We have lost precious revenue in the bargain. The officials should take note of the delay and get the tanker repaired at the earliest,” he added.
In the absence of the night soil tanker, residents of Cuncolim are forced to knock the doors of the Margao Municipal Council or private agencies to take care of their overflowing and choked septic tanks.
