CUNCOLIM: The first bi-monthly meeting of Cuncolim Municipal Council (CMC) on Friday under Chairman Laxman Naik, decided to cancel all the resolutions passed by the last Municipal Council on development works and other issues and the works which have not been completed yet.
Earlier it was decided to bring down garbage tax from 720 annually to 365 for current financial year. The meeting fixed new rates for building permits.
Development works, which got green signals from government authorities and were approved by previous Council, was decided to cancel and councillors agreed for fresh works following Fourteen finance funds.
In fact previous Council had received approval for development works in all wards worth 1.6crores. Councillors Laundry Mascarenhas, John Dias, Udesh Dessai, Raymond Dsouza objected for previous Council approved development works and demanded fresh estimate. Councilor Videsh Dessai and Polita Carneiro from opposition branches tried to convince the governing group the hardships they faced to get approval for development work but in vain.
Councillor Udesh Dessai demanded action against those employees who are undisciplined and responsible for missing municipal files, asked to maintain movement register mandatory. Dessai also raised question on employees not coming in uniform, the CCTV system not working. CP said administration is Officers duty and he requested Chief Officer to put things in order.
Naik ordered the authorities to launch a campaign for the recovery of Council’s arrears of Rs 2 crore.
Udesh Desai was the only councillor who raised various issues but unfortunately he did not get support from other councillors. Chairperson did not allow Dessai to participate in discussion. The meeting also witnessed verbal clash between Chairman Naik and BJP councillor Udesh Desai. The atmosphere heated up after Naik asked councillor Desai to leave the meeting.
Councillor Desai said that the CP is trying to suppress his voice and also questions if the latter wants wrong to continue.
