CUNCOLIM: The Cuncolim Municipal Council on Monday postponed the auction process to rent the shops after the traders association approached Chairperson Laxman Naik demanding that the shops in the new commercial building be rented out to the local shopkeepers and to rehabilitate those shopkeepers whose shops are by the road side.

There are 55 shops on the ground floor of the new commercial building and 35 offices on the first floor. The CMC had started the auction process to rent all these shops.

While constructing the building, it was planned to widen the road by giving space in the new building to the shopkeepers, whose shops are by roadside.

The municipal officials have clarified that it is impossible to give low rent to the shopkeepers.

Laxman promised to discuss the issue by postponing the planned auction. But the offices and other shops on the first floor of the building will be auctioned as per schedule.
