CUNCOLIM: The Cuncolim Municipal Council (CMC), at its bi-monthly meeting on Monday, passed a resolution to transfer Chief Officer Pandharinath Naik immediately.
If the resolution is not accepted within 15 days, the seven councillors of the ruling group have threatened to go on a hunger strike and stop cooperating with the State administration,
Incidentally, the five opposition councillors boycotted the meeting as their demand to postpone the same had been rejected.
At the meeting, the CMC ruling group alleged that Naik was a corrupt officer who did not respect the council and that he was looting the civic body through illegal activities. They also claimed that he was getting commission of Rs 35,000 every month through sopo collection and he was instigating opposition councillors and unruly citizens to threaten the ruling group.
They further stated that Naik was misusing his position and he had failed to perform his duties, due to which other employees could not work, resulting in a bad reputation for the council.
The ruling group also passed a resolution to take back land given to farmer Vishnu Desai and, under police protection, demolish all illegal encroachments, including the barbed wire fencing erected by him.
The council also passed other resolutions, which are: to use 8,500 sq mts of agriculture land for an administrative project; to follow up development works, to raise the issue of missing files with the Directorate of Municipal Administration. Vice Chairperson Morais also claimed that CO Naik had a role to play in the missing files.
The CMC also discussed issues like the garbage treatment plant, illegal houses, and security amounts for landlords who have rented their houses.
