MARGAO: The Cuncolim Municipal Council on Tuesday resolved to call a special meeting of the council to discuss threadbare the controversial Rs 40 lakh fixed deposits, which have come under the scanner of the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
The civic body has also decided to write to the Anti-Corruption Bureau to seek details and status of the probe into the controversial health club.
The two issues, which are being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Bureau, figured prominently at the council meeting held this evening when councillor Laxman Naik made a mention of the status of the fixed deposits issue.
Replying to the question, CMC Chairperson Devendra Desai said that he would call a special meeting of the council to discuss the matter by inviting the bank manager to explain to the civic body the status of the Rs 40 lakh fixed deposits. The issue had come under the scanner of the ACB following a complaint that the fixed deposit did not reflect in the cash book of the civic body.
Desai later told the media that the fixed deposit amount has not been withdrawn by the civic body and is still lying with the bank. Meanwhile, the civic body has decided to engage Goa Animal Welfare Trust to implement the Animal Birth Control (ABC) program in the town. At today’s meeting, the council gave its nod to a proposal to pay Rs 5,000 for a single trip to GAWT to sterilise seven dogs at a time. The council also constituted a committee after discussion on street vendors and also approved a proposal for modernisation of
