PANJIM: Alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) grabbed power in 2012 by giving false promises to the Goans and unemployed youth, the opposition Congress on Tuesday charged that the Sawant government’s promise of providing employment opportunities to the Goan youth through ‘Chief Minister’s Apprenticeship Scheme’, is to keep up with the tradition of election ‘jumlas’.
After chairing the Congress Legislature Party (CL) meeting, Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao stated that he will convene a meeting of all seven opposition MLAs soon to decide on the floor management and strategy to take on the BJP government in the upcoming monsoon session of Goa Assembly.
“We will make optimum use of all working days of the session. We hope that the government will not curtail the session. I will convene a meeting of all opposition MLAs soon,” he informed.
Yuri said that the government had promised resumption of mining, doles to unemployed educated youth and revival of economy in 2012. In reality, the BJP government pushed the State into bankruptcy and created financial emergency. The insensitive government is spending multiple crores on event management and publicity, depriving the social welfare beneficiaries, mid-day meal suppliers, teachers from their rightful financial assistance, payments and salaries, he pointed out.
The CLP also discussed and decided to raise the issues of River Mhadei, environmental issues, rising prices of commodities, collapse of law and order, wasteful expenditure on events, corruption, collapse of tourism industry, frequent power cuts, failure of disaster management authority and deliberate attempts of the BJP to spread communal tensions in the State with an eye on 2024 Lok Sabha elections during the 18-day session.
The Opposition Leader demanded to know why the government could not implement the ‘Chief Minister’s Apprenticeship Scheme’ from July 2021 to June 2023 and whether the government has notified the said scheme.
He also sought to know whether budgetary provisions are made for effective implementation of the scheme?
