PONDA: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said he will come up with an amicable solution to the issue of Kranti Maidan in Ponda on October 23.
Parrikar along with PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar, Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar, Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) Chairperson Radhika Naik, councillors and citizens discussed the issue of beautification of Kranti Maidan on Sunday.
Parrikar inspected the construction site and later held hour-long discussion with PMC and PWD. Citizens also presented their demand stating that they are not opposing the beautification work and construction, but they want the work to be carried out in such a manner that all citizens can attend Christmas and Ganesh festival programmes.
Later speaking to media, Parrikar said PMC and people presented their demand. “What both, PMC and citizens, are presenting can’t be ignored and they have some valuable suggestions. Hence, I will sit with the architect of the project and PMC on October 20 and I will declare my decision on October 23,” Parrikar said.
Speaking to media, Radhika Naik said the project consultant during the meeting informed that after beautification and construction work, about 200 people would be able to sit at Kranti Maidan site.
According to Naik, people want some open space to celebrate Ganesh, Christmas and other festivals. PMC revoked its NOC on the ground that SGPDA objected to the work.
“People in Ponda and PMC are not opposing the beautification project, but they want the development and beautification in such a way that it can accommodate about 1000-1500 people at a time,” added Naik.
