MARGAO: Welcoming Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s statement that seamen will be administered vaccines from June 3, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Seafarers’ Cell in-charge Capt Venzy Viegas said this was a long awaited move and lamented that they were unnecessarily made to move the courts on the matter.
Addressing media persons, Viegas said, “It was better late than never” that the government finally decided to vaccinate seafarers. Around 15,000 Goan seafarers have already received their call letters and are waiting to join the vessels.”
He also appealed to the Chief Minister to reduce the period between the two doses to 4 to 6 weeks as done in Kerala failing which many seafarers will not be able to join their jobs as they would not have taken the second dose.
