VASCO: The municipal technical team inspected 13 establishments at the Vasco market area on Thursday. During inspection, it was found that many of the establishments were handing over mixed waste.
Taking the cognizance of the issue, Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes said that notices have been issued to nine establishments to segregate waste into dry and wet, failing which they would be liable for a penalty of Rs 5000 and the NOCs given to them would be withdrawn.
Fernandes warned that it is the responsibility of each one to provide segregated waste to municipal waste collectors. The source of collecting segregated waste is mandated in the new MSW Rules.
“I feel that each institution should set up its own facility,” the Officer opined.
“I am serious about the penal provision of fining them Rs 5000 on each instance. If they continue, then we will refuse to collect their waste. Then finally we will have to withdraw our NOC given to them for obtain power and water connection,” he said.
