PANJIM: Goa Forward Party (GFP), alliance partners in the BJP-led government, vice president Akbar Mulla has expressed his willingness to contest the upcoming by-elections from Shiroda constituency, provided party President Vijai Sardesai endorses it.
Mulla took to social media to announce his desire. “If my party President and TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai tells me to contest then I would definitely contest the upcoming by-election for Shiroda Constituency,” he tweeted.
Sardesai, again through social media said the party is in alliance and has to respect the coalition dharma, which is an unavoidable and fundamental principle.
“GFP VP Akbar Mulla’s statement that he is ready for the by-polls@ Shiroda but would go by my direction is a symbol of discipline in a party which is in an alliance government under @manoharparrikar where #coalitionDharma is an unavoidable and fundamental principle!” he said.
This is the second alliance partner that has shown interest in fighting BJP’s candidate in Shiroda. MGP President Dipak Dhavalikar has already begun campaigning in the constituency.
BJP is set to field former Congress MLA Subhash Shirodkar, who left the party to join BJP in October, last year. Besides, BJP’s former MLA and Minister Mahadev Naik, has also expressed his desire to contest on a Congress ticket if offered.
