Vasco: Indian Coast Guard personnel joined the humanitarian job of disaster relief in Goa after the heavy rains caused problems for the people revealed a press release issued by Indian Coast Guard on Friday.
Incessant South West monsoon rains have put the life many corners of Goa out of gear in last two weeks following disruption in railway and road lines due to overflowing of all the rivers.
The Govt of Goa seeks aerial reconnaissance and disaster relief assistance which were responded prudently by the Indian Coast Guard men in uniform. In last 12 hours four sorties have been flowns by the fearless white Chetak pilots towards Ganjem to assess the situation of impairment and those stranded denizens seeking rescue.
Further the helo sorties were prepared with life jackets and buoys should they have to respond to a search and rescue scenario. Incidentally, there has been a temporary respite from the continuous rains and the helicopter operations could be undertaken on Friday. The area of operation, Dhaukond in Dharbandora taluka, east of Vasco da Gama continues to be the focus area for the District administration.
Two more helicopter sorties were planned in the latter half of the day to distribute relief material in form of packed food (200 packets) and supplementing cartons of drinking water.
In addition, an in house flood response team has been created at the local Coast Guard establishment at Chicalim with able bodied men and rescue gear. These efforts will be utilised in tandem with other allied agencies towards resource augmentation.
