Coast Guard seeks 10-15 acres of land

Goa govt assures to identify and allot land for expansion

VASCO: The State government has assured to identify and allot 10 to 15 acres of land to the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) near its operational area in Goa, for expanding its operations.
This was informed by Chief Secretary R K Srivastava while addressing the media after the commissioning ceremony of the fast interceptor boat, Charlie-158(C-158) at cruise berth in MPT, on Tuesday.
“In last one year, there has been remarkable positioning of assets in Goa by the Indian Coast Guard and all this was possible only with the support of government. Now the ICG wants to expand its operations in Goa for which they require additional 10 to 15 acres of land near their operational area. The Goa government would not only help the ICG to identify the land but would also follow all steps to allot the land to the India Coast Guard,” Srivastava said.
C-158 is the fourth interceptor boat funded by Ministry of Home Affairs that joined the fleet of Goa Coast Guard on Tuesday. The Home ministry will fund a total of 15 interceptor boats for the Coast Guard.
Commenting on the same issue, ICG Inspector General K Natrajan said that the Coast Guard has plans to double its workforce and operational capabilities for which it has requested the Goa government to allot at least 10 to 15 acres of land for creating more operational logistics support facilities.
