PANJIM: As part of the nationwide coastal clean-up initiative, beach cleaning activities will be carried out on the theme ‘Clean Coast Safe Sea’ across 37 beaches in the State on September 17. The ‘Say No to Drugs’ campaign will be also held simultaneously on that day.
A 75-day citizen-led campaign for improving ocean health through collective action was started on July 5, with three strategic goals — consume responsibly, segregate waste at home and dispose of responsibly — aiming at transformation and environmental conservation through behavioural change.

The campaign, to clean up the 7,500 km long coastline, was launched by the Ministry of Earth Sciences in association with the Indian Coast Guard, and Environment Ministry and it will culminate on September 17.
Addressing mediapersons, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that being a touristic State it is important to have eco-friendly, clean and safe beaches to attract tourism.
“We will also take this opportunity to have a ‘Say No to Drugs’ campaign,” he said.
Sawant has appealed to NGOs, youth, students, panchayats and municipalities to participate in large and help in forming a human chain to convey the message of ‘Clean Coast Safe Sea’.
He said, “All the government servants are directed to participate in the campaign.”
