Coastal police clamp down on illegal fishing activities in Zuari

MARGAO: Following the demands put forward by All Goa Small Scale Responsible Fisheries Union, the coastal police took action against alleged illegal purse seine fishing in Zuari.

The Harbour Coastal police raided illegal purse seine fishing in Zuari and seized an unregistered fishing boat loaded with 1,500 kg of prawns. Totally, two boats were seized with purse seine fishing nets and were towed at the Agasaim jetty. The Fisheries Department registered a case of illegal fishing against a resident of Aramnol for fishing without unregistered equipment, at the Talpona Coastal Police Station in Canacona.

It may be recalled that recently the Union had demanded that the Fisheries Department take action against illegal fishing activity.

They had complained of alleged illegal trawler and purse seine fishing in River Zuari by over a dozen boats in the second week of February off Cacra-Odxel coast.
