Coastal Police deployed across major fishing jetties

PANJIM: The deployment of coastal police along the major jetties has begun in the wake of the Directorate of Fisheries seeking the presence of police personnel to prevent fishing-related activities.

In a letter to the DySP (Coastal Police), Deputy Director of Fisheries Smita Mazumdar sought deployment of coastal police at Malim, Chapora, Vasco and Cutbona jetties.

“The Department of Fisheries, issued a notification stating that no fisheries activities will be allowed from April 2, except for providing ration and other material required for the safety of the crew. In this regard, you are kindly requested to deploy police personnel at the Malim, Chapora, Vasco and Cutbona jetties in order to stop any kind of fishery related activities at these jetties,” the letter states.

The police acknowledged receiving the letter with instructions to respective coastal police stations to ensure that there is no violation of the lockdown order as well as notification of the fisheries department.
