CANACONA: Canacona police arrested a 21-year-old Cola resident for befriending a minor girl from the taluka and allegedly raping her since last three months with a promise to marry her later.
The victim was missing since Thursday from her aunt’s place; as such, case of kidnapping stands registered against another male friend of the victim.
Investigating Officer PSI Ramchandra Naik said that they have arrested Sameer V 21, a resident of a Cola in Canacona for allegedly forcibly having sexual intercourse with the victim, a minor girl of 15 years, since last three months. The boy used to visit the victim, a high school dropout, at her aunt’s house during that period.
Sources said that the girl was staying with her maternal aunt as both her mother and father had separated and were living separately.
Sources also revealed that Sameer used to visit the victim regularly with the knowledge of her aunt as she preferred Sameer to marry her niece. While the father of the victim wanted his daughter to marry the person on whom the aunt has lodged a police complaint of kidnapping her niece on Thursday.
The minor girl informed her aunt on Thursday morning that she is going to a doctor in Chaudi, Canacona. As the girl didn’t return that day, her aunt lodged a complaint against Ramdit for kidnapping her niece on Friday.
Later, the victim girl turned up at the police station, and in the presence of a female NGO member told the investigating team that she was forcibly raped by Sameer on a number of occasions.
On the narration of the incident, a case was registered under Section 376 of IPC, Section 4, 17 of POCSO, 2012 and Section 8 of Goa Children Act against accused Sameer.
After conducting medical examination at GMC the minor girl was sent to Apna Ghar at Merces, police said.
Police said that they succeeded in arresting Sameer on Friday night itself. He was presented before JMFC, Margao on Saturday who remanded him to police custody till January 8.
Meanwhile, police is on the look out for Ramdit on whom a case is registered under Section 363 of IPC and Section 8 of Goa Children Act for allegedly kidnapping the victim girl, he is still at large police said.
