CURCHOREM: The work of dismantling of the footbridge that collapsed on May 18 has begun after more than a month.
It may be recalled the footbridge which was constructed more than 30 years ago connecting Curchorem to Sanvordem village over the Zuari River and was not in use and closed down by the authorities after constructing the new bridge.
It collapsed as people were watching a search and rescue operation of a youth who had committed suicide by jumping from the bridge. The locals had demanded a total dismantling of the bridge but after a delay of more than a month the authorities moved and began the work.
