MARGAO: South Goa Collector Anjali Sehrawat said that she is awaiting the feasibility report on the Curchorem IIT project.
The Collector was addressing a meeting with the concerned officials on IIT project.
Dr Dipak Gaitonde, Deputy Collector Land Acquisition, Mamlatdar, BDO and others were present at the meeting, which was held to chalk out a plan on how to go about the initial process of procuring land for the IIT project.
Sehrawat said, “We have received a formal plan from the Directorate of Technical Education Project Officer for the proposed IIT along with the details of the survey numbers that are required to be acquired. The same has been given to the concerned Deputy Collector and he will revert back by January 20 on feasibility report whether the land can be acquired with consent”.
The Collector said only after January 20 the administration will be in a position to officially communicate to the Department of Technical Education on the feasibility of setting up IIT in that area based on the land procurement.
“Subsequently if found feasible we will communicate to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and if they say yes we will procure it,” Sehrawat said.
“This is the initial feasibility report and after we find that it is easy to procure and there are no court cases on this land we will go ahead,” she added.
The Collector informed that an approximate area of around 13 lakh square metres has been identified of which 9 lakh square metres is already in the government possession. The acquisition will only entail around 4 lakh square metres.
Speaking on any alternate plans, Sehrawat said “So far we have not received any alternate plan from the Department of Technical Education; hence we are looking at this land.”
“They have probably zeroed in on this land is because entire 13 lakh square metres is not required to be procured and hence it is only a matter of nearly 4 lakh sq mts which needs to be looked into. It seems possible and we are not contemplating a major hurdle,” said Collector.
