VALPOI: In a bid to ease traffic congestion in Valpoi town, North Goa Collector Mamu Hage has issued a notification banning parking on both sides of the road from Valpoi Court to Valpoi police station with immediate effect.
Valpoi locals have expressed satisfaction over this. The ban on parking on the stretch is expected to reduce traffic, especially in the central part of the city. When contacted, VMC Chairperson Shehzin Shaikh said, “This will help gain control over the traffic in Valpoi city. Several meetings were held in this regard but unfortunately, it did not come to fruition. Now the Collector’s notification will have a positive impact on the traffic issue that locals face regularly.”
The Valpoi municipal council had come up with a traffic plan around 10 years ago but it was never executed. The councillors had tried to implement the plan by holding meetings at various levels. However, the concerned departments cannot act on the plan until it is notified.
