PONDA: After Herald highlighted the issue of touts looting Dudhsagar visitors at Collem by over charging them in its October 31 edition, Collem police launched an awareness drive to alert the tourists on Tuesday morning. Under the guidance of PI Sagun Sawant, PSI Ajay Dhuri, hawaldar Dashrath Gawas, Premanand Sawant, constable Deval Kudalkar and Asmita were the part of the team who participated in the drive.
It is pertinent to note that the government had initiated an online booking system for the visitors to ease their hardships.
However after booking online, the persons still have to queue up at the counter at Collem to make the payment. Taking advantage of this loophole, many locals started to charge Rs 1,500 to 2,000 instead of the official rate which is Rs 500.
Collem police have appealed to the visitors to inform them if the touts are exploiting or harassing them.
Meanwhile, as per reliable sources, police have found information regarding persons who have been looting visitors and will make the arrests once the complaint is filed.
