MARGAO: The Colva Civic & Consumer Forum has attacked the government for failing to protect the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities from atrocities.
Briefing the media at Margao, CCCF member Judith Almeida alleged that a Colva panch, Francisco Cardozo, has been repeatedly abused and humiliated on the basis of cast, by another panch Calvert Gonsalves. Cardozo was even humiliated before his minor son, she added.
She claimed that several police complaints were lodged against Calvert Gonsalves, but no action has been taken till date.
“Even the SC & ST Commissioner wrote to the Superintendent of Police, South Goa, yet the police did not act. Complaints lodged before the deputy collector also did not lead to any action,” she regretted.
Frustrated with the police and the deputy collector, Almeida has called upon the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police to take action against their subordinates for their failure to prevent atrocities against the SC & ST communities.
