MARGAO: Agitated residents of a housing complex at Colva have firmly opposed any plans by the Town and Country Planning department to allow the builder to convert a portion of the residential complex into a commercial hotel.
A delegation of the residents led by Saturnino Rodrigues called on the deputy Town Planner James Mathew at the TCP office at Margao here on Thursday, with a plea objecting to the conversion of the residential complex into a hotel. The delegation pointed that the builder has already allowed a portion of the building for use as lodging and boarding, giving nightmares to the residents putting up in the complex.
Mathew later told the media that though the TCP Board has agreed to the request of the builder for converting a portion of the building into a hotel, the file will be once again referred to the government for a decision. “Since Colva is a tourist area, the application from the builder was processed. But, since the residents have now objected, the government will take a fresh call. He .asserted that the TCP has not granted the permission to the builder.
