Colva lifeguards strike work

MARGAO: Life guards posted at the Colva beach stopped working on Thursday in protest against the delay in the payment of their salaries. The life guards, who assembled near the watch tower in the morning after reporting for work, said they would resume duties only upon payment of their salaries.

“We were assured of our salaries by March 7. However, till date there’s no sign of the salaries coming to us. When we tried to contact the HR, there’s no response from the office”, informed a beleaguered life guard.
The life guards maintained that though they have reported for work, they will actually put in work only after the payment of salaries. “If we receive our salaries by evening, we will resume work. Otherwise, our strike will continue”, remarked another life guard.
Meanwhile, the life guards stated that there’s no proper maintenance of the watch tower erected on the Colva beach.
They pointed out that even the steps of the temporary ladder have gone missing, but the repair work is yet to start till date.
