MARGAO: Following the death of a Kolkata native in a parasailing accident, Colva police have registered an FIR against the water-sports operators at Colva.
Agnel Fernandes, James Fernandes, Bahn Singh Chauhan and Umesh Kharia, the water-sports operators involved in the incident, have been booked under Section 304 (a) of IPC. The post-mortem on the body of Shashi Prasad has also confirmed that death was due to drowning.
Meanwhile, activists from Colva and other areas have demanded that the beaches of Goa be well-equipped with paramedics and qualified personnel to handle emergencies.
“Goa is a place of adventure and tourism, and the beaches need to have paramedics as these incidents will continue to happen. On Tuesday, the readiness of the quick-response services was tested, and they failed,” said Laurel Abranches.
It may be recalled that Shashi Shekhar Prasad from Khadakpur, Kolkata, drowned after he got detached from the parasail and fell into the water at Colva on Tuesday. He and his wife had come to Colva for paragliding, and they were staying at a hotel in Utorda for a business meet of Federal Brands, a retail company which Shashi was attached to.
