MARGAO: Colva Police on Thursday applied for a proclamation to declare Nuvem MLA and former RDA minister Francisco (Mickky) Pacheco an absconder.
After seven days of persistent efforts to nab Pacheco proved futile, Colva Police Inspector Uttam Raut Dessai late Thursday handed over the arrest warrant issued against Pacheco to the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao.
Dessai told the JMFC that their teams have searched for Pacheco in all possible places in Goa and outside the State, but haven’t been successful. The seven-day period of the arrest warrant ended on Thursday.
Pacheco’s review petition in the Supreme Court is likely to come up on Friday. The intervention petition of Adv Aires Rodrigues in the matter will be heard by Margao JMFC Pooja Kavlekar on Friday.
Dessai told Herald that all the spots Pacheco usually visited in Colva are under the radar of the Police Sub Inspectors of Colva Police Station. Teams are in place in Pondicherry and New Delhi and other areas, he said.
Police have been searching for Pacheco for the last seven days, since the JMFC had directed the Colva Police to execute the warrant within seven days so that Pacheco can undergo six months imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 1,500 in the 2006 electricity department junior engineer Kapil Natekar assault case.
Rodrigues had moved the court for the issue of a warrant of arrest as Pacheco had moved a review application before the Supreme Court.
In December 2013, Rodrigues, in a petition before the High Court, had challenged Pacheco’s release by Margao Sessions Judge Vijaya Pol on admonition by granting him benefit of the Probation of Offenders Act. The High Court after hearing Adv Rodrigues converted the petition into a suo motu petition, which later led to upholding of Pacheco’s conviction.
