Colva Police team visits Karnataka, daughter’s remand to be extended

MARGAO: Colva Police team headed by Police Sub-Inspector visited Kedal, Karnataka in connection with the investigation of murder of 80-year-old Varca senior citizen Trindade Martins.

It is learnt recently that the police had interrogated one Karnataka native residing at Varca in connection with the murder. So far, the police have interrogated 10 persons and no major clue has been collected to find out the motive behind the murder.

The police have also recorded the statements of six persons in connection with the murder and efforts were on to arrest another alleged accused involved in the case.

Meanwhile, murder accused daughter Jubel Martins will be produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Margao and further remand will be prayed before the court. Her remand period expires on February 28.

The police have registered an offence under Section 302 of IPC for committing murder and under Section 449 of IPC for criminally trespassing into the house. But so far, it is not known yet as who had trespassed into the house to kill Trindade.

The police team on Friday again checked the CCTV footage taken from more places in Varca.

“We have checked the movement of people on CCTV cameras till evening and investigation is in progress,” said the police.

Police suspect that murder might have taken place over the property matter. However, no strong evidence has come to light yet.
