MAPUSA: The Mapusa police have solved the Colvale HDFC bank ATM theft and apprehended two of the accused and recovered cash of Rs 33,000 on Thursday.
The police have recovered the vehicle used for transporting the ATM machine from the bank to a hilly area, a two wheeler used by as conveyance, two rain coats, metal pipe used for loading and unloading the machine.
On Monday, Colvale branch manager of HDFC Bank reported that six unknown male persons stole the ATM machine loaded with cash of more than Rs 10 lakh. Immediately, a case was registered under Section 380 read with 34 IPC at Mapusa police station and the investigation was taken up.
On the day of the crime, the staff located the stolen ATM machine which was abandoned in a damaged condition in the hilly area of Revora village. However, the cash was found stolen. Further, during the course of investigation after developing the information through sources, Mohammad Lukman Ansari, aged 21 years, a native of Jharkhand was apprehended who on interrogation disclosed his involvement in the crime.
He was found in possession of Rs 17,000. Accordingly, he was arrested on Tuesday. While in custody of police, Ansari disclosed that he along with his brother-in-law, Rustom Abdul Haq Khan, a resident of Delhi along with his friends planned the crime.
He further disclosed that after committing the crime, all other accused escaped to various destinations.
Further, as disclosed by the accused Mohammad Ansari one of the accused Hasan was traced in Bangalore. Accordingly a team lead by PSI Ramchandra Naik visited Bangalore and after developing the information apprehended accused Hasan Abdul Barikh, aged 24 years, on Thursday after hectic efforts and cash of Rs 16,000 has been seized from his possession.
Several teams are working to trace the other accused persons.
The investigating team consists of Mapusa PI Kapil Nayak, PSIs Dhiraj Devidas, Ramchandra Naik, Fransisco Xavier, HC Irshad Watange, PCs Sushant Chopdekar, Rajesh Kandolkar, Vijay Naik, Frankey Vaz, Tukaram Kambli, Laxmikant Naik and Abhishek Kasar.
