Colvale cops book duo for cheating man of Rs 58.5 lakh

PANJIM: The Colvale police have booked two persons for allegedly cheating an Assonora resident of Rs 58.5 lakh by inducing him to invest in a scheme with a promise to double the invested amount.

According to the police, the FIR has been registered against Vijay Vinayak Redkar and Riya Acharya based on the complaint of Sukdo Nachinolcar from Assonora.

Nachinolcar in his complaint lodged on October 17, 2023, alleged that since 2016 till October 17, 2023, Vijay Vinayak Redkar and his wife Riya alias Vani Acharya induced him to invest Rs 58.5 lakh in a scheme in the pretext of doubling the amount but they failed to return the money.

The accused also allegedly threatened to kill him if he disclosed the matter to anyone, Nachinolcar has said in the complaint.

A case under section 420 and 506 (ii) read with 34 of IPC has been registered against the couple.

However, no arrest has been made in connection with the crime so far and further investigation is underway, the Colvale police added.
