MAPUSA: Colvale Village Panchayat demolished a scrap yard, which was operating illegally at Mushirwado in Colvale, on Friday.
The demolition was carried out under supervision of Colvale Sarpanch Nitin Kandolkar with police protection.
Sarpanch Kandolkar informed that around six scrap yards were issued notices based on memorandum issued by the Directorate of Panchayat two years back. However, the owners approached the court and now after the hearing, this particular scrap yard located at Mushirwado is demolished.
“The scrap yard used to burn, burry scrap in the land and fields,” said the sarpanch.
Kandolkar said that all the scrap yards operating in the jurisdiction of Colvale are illegal and burn and burry scrap which causes pollution. These scrap yards should start operating legally following proper methods failing which the panchayat will initiate action.
