PANJIM: The Department of Transport will start detecting and penalising traffic offenders through the CCTV cameras installed in and around Panjim from midnight of May 22.
The cameras installed under Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) will start detecting and booking traffic offenders at 13 locations across Panjim and some in Porvorim.
In a notice issued for the general public, the Electronic Enforcement under Section 136-A of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 will be implemented in the State of Goa for the detection and penalising traffic violators.
At 13 locations namely Divja circle, Custom House junction, ferry wharf junction, Kala Academy junction, all in Panjim; Malim junction, Village Panchayat Penha da France; Hero Honda junction, Porvorim; ACDIL school junction (Delfino’s junction) (on road leading to Panjim), near Teen Building, O’Coqueiro junction, Porvorim; Science Centre, St Michael School to Miramar, Taleigao road; Science Centre, Miramar Taleigao road to St Michael School, Goa University-Dona Paula road and Merces junction, cameras will go live for booking offenders.
The Department of Transport will be notifying the date of implementation of other locations separately. Under the ITMS, a system generated e-challan will be sent via SMS to the registered mobile number of vehicle owner by Department of Transport/Police.
