PANJIM: The State government has granted in-principle approval to the Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC) to hold one common examination for recruitment to the Goa Civil Service (GCS), Goa Police Service (GPS) and the Goa Forest Service (GFS) so that all posts can be filled at once instead of conducting exams separately.

GPSC chairman Jose Manuel Noronha said that the Commission had submitted its proposal to the government in July this year to hold a common exam and the government has now given its in-principle approval for the same after notifying the Goa Police Service Rules recently.

Noronha said that rather than holding separate exams for GCS, GPS and GFS, there will now be one common examination on the lines of exams conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Once the candidates pass the exam, they will have the option of choosing the services of their choice.

“We plan to conduct one common exam in April every year and the modalities will be worked out now,” he said, adding that it will cut expenditure and save time.

There will first be a pre-screening exam, followed by a repeat pre-screening exam for those candidates who could not pass the exam due to a `small modular marks’. It will be followed by a screening exam, written test and interview.
