CANACONA, JUNE 13
The Canacona Health Welfare Community (CHWC) has threatened an agitation in the taluka beginning from June 28, if the government fails to improve facilities at Canacona Community Health Centre (CCHC), Chaudi, by June 27.
The CHWC convened a meeting which was largely attended by citizens from various walks of life, including the two MLAs from the taluka.
Both MLAs, Vijay Pai Khot and Ramesh Tawadkar, expressed their inability to get the government to improve the health facilities in the taluka without support of residents.
“When I found that this government is only giving promises, I had even suggested taking around 1000 residents from Canacona to the secretariat, when the assembly is in session, to activate the government’s senses towards the plight of the Canacona people. We may have to do this in future, if the government continues to ignore people’s legitimate demands,” said Canacona MLA Vijay Pai Khot.
Added Poinguinim MLA Ramesh Tawadkar: “I met Chief Minister Digamber Kamat, who directed me to Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane. The health minister promised to bring all the needed facilities to Canacona Community health Centre, but till today nothing has materialised.”
Others present at the meeting included CMC Deputy Chairperson Dilip Kenkre, Agonda ex-Sarpanch and panch Jovi Fernandes, Loliem-Polem Panchcyat Deputy Sarpanch Elvis Fernandes, Shristhal Panch Sanjiv Naik, Poinguinim panchas Satish Painginkar and Caitano Barretto, CHWC President Diogo D’Silva and Vice-President Peter Barretto.
