Commuters at risk as road dug up for sewage work yet to be restored in Ponda

The Sewage Treatment Plant in Ponda was inaugurated earlier, but digging for the sewage chambers is still on; rubble left on the road; commuters forced to ply on the wrong side of National Highway

PONDA: A stretch of the Daag-Ponda main road, dug up last month for a sewerage pit at Kapileshwari, remains open and unrepaired, way past the May 31 deadline set by the government for its Departments and their contractors to restore all dug-up roads. Despite the impending monsoon season, the road has not been restored, leaving rubble and debris scattered across the site without warning signs, endangering commuters and pedestrians alike.

Locals are demanding the immediate restoration of the neglected road, which has been compromised since the construction of the sewerage tank. Ironically, the Ponda STP was inaugurated earlier, but road digging for sewerage chambers continues in the area.

The situation is further complicated as commuters traveling from Daag-Ponda towards Panjim are forced to use the wrong side of the National Highway, as the service road at Kapileshwari is also dug up for sewerage work and not properly restored. This has increased the risk of accidents on the stretch.

Residents are urging authorities to restore both the main road and service road at Daag-Ponda immediately, ensuring the safety of commuters.

No comments from authorities have been made regarding the issue yet.
