Companies asked to take councillors to study waste plants

Strange it may seem, but true. Many a Margao Municipal Councillor may not have been visiting the Sonsodo dumping yard on a regular basis, but the civic body has now asked both Ramky and Fomento-IL&FS combine to take the city fathers to study the garbage treatment plants run and operated in other states.
MMC Chairperson Savio Coutinho said the two companies interested in setting up the proposed plant at Sonsodo are required to take the city fathers to States where they run and operate similar garbage plants.
When newsmen asked whether the councillors possess any expertise or are they technically qualified to study and evaluate garbage treatment plants, Coutinho said many such study tours had taken place in the past without objection from any quarters.
He denied that he has arranged the study tours for the city fathers to keep them in good humour.
