Complainant deposes in Irish woman murder case

Judge advises Vikat to spend jail time constructively

MARGAO: Additional Sessions Judge II Sayonora Teles Lad who commenced examining witnesses on Friday in the case filed against Vikat Bhagat for the rape and murder of Irish national Danielle McLaughin at Palolem advised the accused to use his period in jail constructively by studying something.
Prashant Komarpant who had lodged the complaint began his deposition on Friday as the first witness in the case. He deposed that he saw the body of a female foreigner with its face smashed lying on the ground on March 14, 2017 when he was on the way to his field and added that the body was nude with the legs wide spread.
Nervous on seeing the body he contacted one Amar Komarpant who in turn informed the police and asked Prashant to wait near the asphalted road to guide the police to the spot. He identified himself in six photographs of the many that were taken at the site.
He added that he remained with the police at the site till around 2 pm when the body was finally taken away from the site. He said he had left his house early in the morning to go to the fields and must have seen the body at around 7 am.
Adv Arun Bras de Sa appearing for the accused objected to the photographs saying they were hazy and that the witness could not clearly be identified in them.
