The complainant claimed that knowing the property is ancestral, and is in the name of the late Roy Fernandes, the so-called officer concerned deliberately did not attach the copy of the ownership documents to the ‘public will’.

MARGAO: A complainant from Salcete Taluka has expressed anger for not registering an FIR against a former officer from Sub-Registrar Office, Margao, pertaining to a land grabbing case that was reported at Benaulim.

Menino Fernandes, who had filed the complaint in this regard informed Herald that the concerned officer had fraudulently favoured one person to make a ‘public will’ in his favour without any documentary evidence like ownership documents, copy of an identification of the donor, besides ID proof of witnesses and some translator etc.

As alleged by the complainant, one well-known lawyer too is involved in the scam. “For signing any documents, a copy of ID proof is mandatory and the concerned officer has executed the so-called ‘public will’ in 2014 without any documents on record. This gang of cheats very well knew that the ownership is in the name of late Roy Fernandes (name changed) since the purchase of that property in 1930 and the original documents are in the possession of the one Savia (name changed) and that it would be difficult to get hold of these documents from any government offices,” he stated.

He said he managed to get hold of the documents from some government departments which are in Portuguese. These Portuguese documents were translated by him into English and given to SIT along with the complaint. The property is worth around Rs 5-6 crore.

The complainant claimed that knowing the property is ancestral, and is in the name of the late Roy Fernandes, the so-called officer concerned deliberately did not attach the copy of the ownership documents to the ‘public will’.

“Being a serious offence, I fail to understand as to why an FIR has not been registered and the officer has not been arrested till now despite my detailed complaint in writing and subsequent meeting with the investigating officer,” he expressed anger.
