PANJIM: The Goa State Secretary of the Mahila Congress Diya Shetkar on Sunday accused BJP leader Subhash Shirodkar’s supporters of threatening her with gang-rape and killing if she campaigned in his constituency or spoke against their leader.
Shetkar filed an NC with the Panaji police station as she was scheduled to leave for Mumbai. On Monday, she visited the office of the Director General of Police, Goa, Muktesh Chander and submitted a written complaint against Shirodkar and other unknown persons for the offences of criminal intimidation, threats to kill, cause gang-rape, outraging the modesty of a woman and other offences.
Shirodkar is a former Congress MLA and represented Shiroda in Goa Legislative Assembly. He had recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The Congress party worker and lawyer said in a written complaint to the Women’s Police Station at Panaji in Goa saying that she got a telephone call early on Sunday morning asking her to “not to do anything against him (Shirodkar) in Shiroda constituency”.
Speaking to media persons at a press conference at the Congress office in Panaji, Diya Shetkar said, “BJP leader Subhash Shirodkar’s goons are threatening me with gang-rape and killing. The BJP govt is tarnishing my image by making vulgar and highly defamatory statements.
