Complaint Filed by GPCC against Siddhesh Naik Alleges Violation of Model Code of Conduct

The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has lodged a formal complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) regarding an alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by Siddhesh Naik, during the ongoing election process.

The complaint, bearing reference number GPCC/Compt/2023-24/327, highlights an incident involving Siddesh Naik, son of North Goa Lok Sabha Candidate Shripad Naik. Naik was reportedly observed at the Govt. Primary School in Sao Pedro, Ribandar, Goa, which falls under the 11-Panaji Assembly Segment. He was purportedly donning a T-shirt emblazoned with the slogan “MODI ONCE MORE 2024,” a reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The GPCC contends that such attire, endorsing a specific political figure, constitutes a blatant violation of the MCC, which is designed to ensure a level playing field for all contestants and parties during the electoral process.

In their letter to the CEO’s office, GPCC has urged swift action in accordance with the relevant legal provisions to address the alleged transgression. The party anticipates a prompt response and appropriate measures to uphold the integrity of the electoral framework.

Sunil Kawthankar, Vice President of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee, signed the complaint, expressing gratitude in anticipation of a timely resolution to the matter.
