PANJIM: Activist Sudip Tamhankar has lodged a criminal complaint against two contractors for carrying out road works without undertaking precautionary measures. In his complaint to Crime Branch, Tamhankar alleged that Venkatrao Infrastructure Ltd and Navyug Engineering Company Limited were negligently carrying out road construction of National Highway-17 from Patradevi to Bambolim.
“The construction/widening of road namely NH-17 from Patradevi to Bambolim is in progress and for the last two months it is found that Venkatrao undertaking the work from Patradevi to Karaswada and Navyug undertaking the work from Karaswada to Bambolim are doing the work in negligent and dangerous manner causing danger to the lives of the daily commuters who are traveling by this road,” he said, also pointing at dust pollution due to the ongoing work.
The complainant alleged that the contractors have not only failed to display the mandatory sign boards and reflectors, but also diverted routes through the rough roads, which was causing danger to commuters. Tamhankar mentioned of road accidents and the recent death of a local, owing to the negligence of the contractors. The activist has sought criminal action against the contractors and also pleaded the authorities concerned to inspect the ongoing work.
