MARGAO: Representatives of Communidades from South Goa on Wednesday expressed their unhappiness over the response of the authorities in curbing encroachments on Comunidade land and the very functioning of the Comunidade administration.
Around 20 attorneys representing various Communidade bodies gave vent to their sentiments at a meeting conveyed by the District Collector N D Agrawal at the District Collectorate this evening.
The attorneys lamented over the slow or no response from the authorities, including the Comunidade officials and the police in initiating action against the illegalities and encroachments. In fact, they drew attention of the district Collector that complaints made to the authorities are not attended to promptly by the authorities concerned. In some cases, they claimed that cases have dragged on for years for want of action by authorities.
Sources said that many an attorney have demanded the immediate implementation of the Amendment to the Goa Land (Prohibition of Constructions) Act, 1995 giving teeth to the authorities to initiate prompt action against encroachments. The Collector, it is learnt,
has promised to issue a circular to the authorities to take immediate cognisance of the encroachments.
