Comunidade offers land for development in Candolim, Calangute

NGDPA has proposed various projects in two villages; meet held with villagers seeking response to land-use and register

PANJIM: Following proposals of various development activities, including multi-level parking and garbage treatment facility, in the Outline Development Plan (ODP) for Candolim-Calangute, the comunidades of the two villages have approached North Goa Planning and Development Authority (NGPDA) expressing its willingness to provide the land.
NGPDA on Thursday evening held a meeting with the villagers of Candolim and Calangute, seeking suggestions and objections to the land-use map and register for the villages, a first step towards drafting the ODP. The meeting was chaired by local MLA and NGPDA Chairman Michael Lobo.
Lobo said that NGPDA proposes to have drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, sewerage treatment plant for Candolim, stadium, four multi-level parking facilities in each village, dog shelter, etc for which land is required. “The comunidades of these two villages have approached us to give their land for developmental projects,” he said.
The NGPDA earlier this month kept the land-use map and register for Candolim-Calangute villages open for public suggestions and objections for a period of 30 days. “The ODP will be frozen for ten years,” he stated.
The authority has appealed to the villagers to submit their survey plans so that the residential and commercial structures could be marked on the land use map. “The Candolim village panchayat has supported the ODP. We want Calangute VP to also extend its support,” Lobo said.
