PANJIM: The Administrator of Comunidades, North Zone issued a notice on Wednesday stating that comunidade elections for Bardez, Bicholim and Pernem talukas have been adjourned.
In the notice, the Administrator stated that the elections of the managing committee board of the comunidades from the aforementioned talukas, which were scheduled to take place on January 16, Sunday, have been adjourned until further notice. These are the elections for electing comunidade members for the triennium 2022-2025.
The decision to adjourn the elections has been taken in view of Covid related restrictions on public gatherings that have been put in place under the Disaster Management Act.
The Administrator further pointed out that following consultations with these comunidades, it was confirmed that more than 50 persons would be present for the elections, if it had to take place and that the same would be in violation of the prevailing law and guidelines.
