MARGAO: Issues that have been affecting the Comunidades in Goa were discussed at a well-attended meeting amongst Comunidade stakeholders, including committee members of some Comunidades.
There were around 150 participants comprising like-minded Gaonkars, Shareholders, Zonkars, Zoneiros, and Acsaocars at the meeting, representing the three zones of North, South, and Central Administration offices of Comunidades. The meeting was organised by a group known as ‘Justica para Comunidades,’ and the organisers included Mahesh Kenkre from Mapusa, Oswald H Pinto from Porvorim amongst others.
“Matters discussed were more of how to improve the functioning and make it smooth of our age-old institution of Comunidades. Following the discussion, there was a question & answer session wherein senior members having thorough knowledge of the subject matter clarified and gave solutions,” said one of the organisers.
Issues pertaining to various amendments introduced by the government and its implications on the functioning of the Comunidades were also discussed. There was another discussion on the use of land belonging to Comunidades for meaningful purposes. Some of the suggestions included bringing all Comunidade bodies under one roof to bring uniformity in the functioning and providing timely guidance to each other.
There were also suggestions for involving other Comunidade associations wherein they are all commonly represented so that they pursue their goal collectively for the common cause. A common thread amongst discussion was for all Comunidade stakeholders to be united, address present challenges and improve the condition of the Comuinades for posterity.
