Conceicao is Loutolim sarpanch

MARGAO: Conceicao Fernandes alias Concy is the new Sarpanch of Loutolim. In the elections held on Monday, Conceicao was elected unopposed to the vacant post after the presiding officer received her lone nomination paper. Ibrahim Sheikh, officer from the Block Development Office was the presiding officer. She succeeds Maria Monteiro who had quit office after holding the post for two years and one month as per the mutual agreement between the Panchayat members. Ater her election, Conceicao said she would take the members into confidence while taking up development of the village. She has thanked local MLA Mickky Pacheoc for his support and expressed confidence that the MLA will extend support to her for the village development.

Two Cuncolim locals assaulted 
MARGAO: Upon complaint by Depak D Dessai of Culwaddo-Cuncolim, the Cuncolim police have registered offence of rioting, unlawful assembly, wrongful restrain, assault and threatening to kill, against alleged accused – Natalio Duarte, Chinchinim, Tino Fernandes, Benaulim, Milton Diniz, Velim, Sendwill Fernandes, Velim, Virendra Konkar, Betul and 10 other under sections 143, 147, 341, 504, 323, 506 (II) read with 34  IPC. Dessai in his complaint has stated that on August 7 at around 6 pm, at parking place, KTC bus stand, Cuncolim, above named accused along with 10 others restrained and assaulted the complainant and his friend Krumal Dessai, Culwaddo-Cuncolim, with slaps and punches causing simple injuries and further threatened to kill the complainant and his friend over previous enmity. Further investigation is being carried by HC Onzu Gaonkar.
Missing youth found dead
MARGAO: Maina-Curtorim police upon information from Neelappa B Manjulkar, a native of Bijapur Karnataka and who is presently residing near PWD tank Daman, Raia, recovered  a decomposed body of male hanging from a tree. The victim was identified as the complainant 22-year-old brother Vithal, who resided in a hut in the same area. Police sources informed that a missing complaint was filed on August 8, in this regard. Body has been preserved at morgue for post mortem. 
A delegation of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee comprising Dr Ulhas Parab, General Secretary Gregory Xavier, Vijay Pai, Secretary and Vaman Chodankar, Office Secretary submit a copy of the GPCC charge sheet against BJP govt in Goa, to Dr Radhakrishnan, Secretary to the Governor of Goa. 
GSHCL felicitates farmers
PANJIM: The Goa State Horticulture Corporation Ltd (GSHCL) organized taluka-level local Vegetable Producers’ Award Day and launched local vegetable production campaign 2014-15 at Institute Menezes Braganza Hall, Panjim. Vishnu Surya Wagh, MLA, Kiran Kandolkar, MLA and Chairman of GSHCL Rajan Naik, MLA, Orlando Rodrigues Director of Agriculture Department were present along with member of the Board of Directors. Various awards and individual prizes were given to the farmers on the occasion. Zonal Agriculture Office, Bardez, Aldona Panchayat, Gaondongri Farmers Society, Canacona and Miracle High School from Sanguem were given awards. In individual category successful farmers from different talukas were felicitated. 
Poriem local commits suicide
VALPOI: A 36-year-old man from Ranewada-Poriem allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his in-law’s house at Guraovwada-Poriem late Sunday night. According to Valpoi police, the in-laws were shocked to see the body of Vasant Madkar hanging in the veranda of the house on Monday morning. Valpoi police conducted the panchnama and the body was sent to GMC Hospital in Bambolim for post-mortem. PI Sanjay Dalvi is investigating the case.
House in Maxem-Loliem looted
CANACONA: Burglars broke into a house at Maxem-Loliem, Canacona, and decamped with gold ornaments worth over Rs 2.5 lakh on Monday. A police team was at the site trying to gather clues and accounting the missing valuables, as the burglary came to light late Monday evening after the working couple reached home after 6 pm. According to sources, the burglars struck at the house belonging to Vinay Lolienkar at Maxem. The house is in an isolated area as the nearest house is more than 100 metres away and a small temple of Mahalaxmi deity is located nearby. The couple had left the house at 8 am for their respective jobs after locking the house. However, they were shocked to see the house ransacked when they reached home at 6 pm. A completely shaken Sheela, nurse working at a private hospital in the taluka, informed that two gold chains, four bangles, five pairs of earrings, besides finger-rings, all worth over Rs 2.5 lakh were stolen. 
CM to unveil Bandodkar statue
PANJIM: Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar will unveil the statue of late D B Bandodkar, the first chief minister of Goa at the Secretariat complex, Porvorim, at 9.30 am on August 12 – the death anniversary of Bandodkar. The Chief Minister along with cabinet ministers will also place garlands/flowers on the samadhi of late Bandodkar at Miramar at 8.30 am followed by garlanding of the statue at Old Secretariat, Panjim at 9 am.
