PANJIM: The concerned citizens held a protest in Panjim demanding that the voters boycott all the eight MLAs, who defected to BJP.
Warning of more intense protests in future, the citizens have urged people to hold protests in front of the residences of all the defecting MLAs for betraying their trust and going against the people’s mandate.
The protest was led by former Margao Municipal Council chairperson Savio Coutinho, who said that the defection is treachery on the Goan electorate by the defectors.
“These people even made a mockery of God to fool the voters. There is nothing called constituency development, these people went for their personal development…to fulfill their selfish motives,” he said.
Coutinho said, “People should pledge to boycott these MLAs for the remaining term and also in the future elections.”
AAP leader Cecille Rodrigues blamed the voters for electing those candidates, known for betrayal and it’s high time that the voter be more vigilant.
“People should not forget the betrayal of these MLAs and should teach them a lesson in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as well as the 2027 Assembly elections,” she said.
GFP leader John Nazareth said these politicians, with their defection game, have brought a bad name for Goa.
Margao activist Mahesh Naik said the MLAs can fool the voters but they cannot fool God who will definitely punish them for the mockery.
