Concerns have surfaced over a possible increase in electricity bills after reports indicated that the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has recommended a revision in fixed power charges following recent fuel price hikes.
According to reports, the proposal includes suggested changes to multiple components of electricity billing, including fixed charges, energy charges, meter charges and Fuel Adjustment Cost (FAC)-related expenses.

The recommendation is expected to be placed before the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for consideration and approval.
Chief Electrical Engineer Stephen Fernandes clarified that no electricity tariff hike would come into immediate effect. He stated that any revision in electricity charges would require completion of the regulatory approval process, including public hearings and consultations before implementation.
The development has sparked concern among consumers amid rising fuel costs and increasing household expenses.
